EXHIBITION BY ARTIST CHIA YU CHIAN
The exhibition by Artist Chia Yu Chian showed a very interesting angle into the lives of people living in Malaysia at that time. He shows the lives of everyday people doing everyday things and, in the process, captures the other aspects that we never pay attention.

Fig 1.1 Chia's Restaurant painting |
For example, In the Painting shown in Figure 1.1 Chia portrays a scene outside a Restaurant. We see in the painting things like cars, uniformed chauffeurs. A spectacle of people looking back to see what was happening behind them and beggars walking by unnoticed. In this image we see an everyday scenario. However, in this painting Yu Chian shows us the economic disparity between the rich and the poor, the consequences of rapid urbanism and Materialism.

We can also see Perspective in most of Yu Chian’s work which is a very important concept we learned at our Design Principle Lectures. (Figure1.2)

Fig 1.3 Technique |
Yu Chians uses a similar technique for almost all his paintings (Figure 1.3). His technique of Painting forms interesting Textures on his paintings. These textures add contrast to his paintings and enhances vibrance of the colors.

Fig 1.4 Sketch |
The exhibition also displayed sketched that was done by the artist. (Figure 1.4). These pieces showed how the artist generated his ideas. Yu Chian used precise lines to create these sketches.
PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION
 |
Fig 2.1 |
The Photography exhibit showcased work by 7 different artists. The first things I noticed in the photographs were the strong contrasts with shadows and lights. (Figure 2.2). Most of the images were B/W, because of this some of the elements in the photographs appeared as silhouettes creating a very strong outcome.
The photographs all showed very strong emotions and they all had a message behind them. Some even showing the traditions of Thailand.
